Thanks for the photos, Ray. What did you think about the paddling? I noticed that most folks were scouting the stream from the banks and NOT getting into a boat.
Above Six Mile Falls, the Kenduskeag is pretty manageable. The current is very strong and FAST. Lots of eddies and pushy cross currents and some standing waves in sections, but nothing dangerous or unmanageable, for a moderately experienced person in a rec boat.
A capsize in that water could easily leave a person in a tough situation though, with gear and boat floating downstream at a rapid pace — and no shoreline nearby, since the river is flooded well back into the trees in most places.
