Leslie and Ray are co-owners of Water Walker Sea Kayak and Basin Pond Outdoors. Together, they have a lifetime of experience as educators and trip leaders. Both are avid kayakers, mountain bikers, and cross country skiers. Both compete in the Maine whitewater race series that begins in late March of each year.
Fifteen years ago, they got to know each other while co-teaching a course called “Maine Outdoor Experience.” Today, that course has become their lives — just without the grade books and the indoor classroom.
Leslie Gregory is a Registered Maine Recreational Guide who grew up in northern Maine and enjoyed the lakes, rivers and hills of Aroostook County as a young person. She leads freshwater paddling trips, SUP excursions, snowshoe, ski, and hiking trips and offers instruction in those areas. She enjoys helping beginners develop confidence while learning new outdoor activities and the camaraderie of fellow outdoor enthusiasts. She offers writing and photography opportunities when out in the field. Her favorite new thing is ice-biking in the Basin.
Ray Wirth is a Registered Maine Sea Kayaking Guide. He leads sea kayak and ocean SUP trips as well as offering instruction in those areas. His family moved to Maine when he was twelve and he has yet to find a place he loves more. He especially enjoys guiding paddlers out for a first-time visit to offshore islands. Along with leading coastal tours, he offers courses in rough water paddling, navigation, and rescue. Currently he is intrigued by ice-biking and by developing multi-use trails on Monroe town land near Basin Pond.
